Hon. Sydney Pierre, Junior Minister of Tourism, received a high-level delegation from the Chinatown Foundation on Monday. The group includes 50 international artists and celebrities who are in Mauritius for the Chinese New Year International Gala on 7 February 2026.
Hon. Sydney Pierre met with the delegation, including Miss Universe China, Miss World China, and Hakka music legends Chen Shan Bao and Li Jiani, to discuss the upcoming Chinese New Year International Gala. This visit marks a significant milestone in our cultural tourism calendar, showcasing Mauritius as a vibrant hub of diversity.
Hon. Sydney Pierre and the delegation discussed innovative ways to promote Mauritius to the younger generation in China. By leveraging the influence of visiting celebrities, including Miss Universe China and Miss World China, the Ministry aims to showcase Mauritius not just as a beach destination, but as a hub for adventure, culture, and high-tech creativity.
Another major point of discussion was the strategic importance of direct air connectivity. To fully tap into the Chinese market, both parties emphasized the need for seamless travel. Streamlining routes between major Chinese hubs and Mauritius will facilitate easier access for tourists and business investors alike.
This visit isn't just about a one-day Gala; it's about a long-term vision to make Mauritius the preferred regional hub for Chinese youth.
