HSBC PAYME EARNS RECOGNITION FROM IDG’S 2019 CIO 100 AWARDS

Our mobile wallet has over 1.5 million users Capabilities extended from retail to corporate customers within two years

The International Data Group’s (IDG) digital magazine CIO has announced HSBC as a recipient of its 2019 CIO 100 Awards for the success of its mobile wallet app HSBC PayMe.

Launched in 2017, the HSBC PayMe app in Hong Kong now has over 1.5m users. The popular app was extended to corporate customers through PayMe for Business in only two years’s time. Within a space of weeks, the Bank has already exceeded expectations with merchant sign-up.

Darryl West, HSBC Group Chief Information Officer, said: “This award is further evidence of how HSBC’s investment in technology and changing the ways we work is enabling us to be more innovative and responsive to customer and market needs. Our innovation-focused strategy means we’re going to be rolling out many more convenient, customer-centred services like PayMe globally and start to really transform how the world banks.”

In its 32nd year, the annual award programme recognises 100 organisations globally that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT), driving digital business growth through tech innovation. “Across the business landscape, companies everywhere recognise the vital role that an innovative, value-driven approach to information technology plays in their success,” said Maryfran Johnson, IDG’s Executive Director of CIO Programmes.

“This year’s CIO 100 winning companies are inspiring examples of how IT leadership, business collaboration and digital transformation will drive future growth.” Executives from the winning companies will be recognised at The CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony, to be held in August 2019 in the United States of America.
