Fake / fraudulent Certificates of Mauritian Citizenship and Mauritius National Identity Cards

It has recently come to the knowledge of the Prime Minister’s Office that fake/fraudulent Certificates of Mauritian Citizenship and Mauritius National Identity Cards have been issued to non-citizens of Mauritius. These cases have been reported to the Police and the Financial Crimes Commission for investigation.

It has been alleged that some Mauritian management companies have claimed huge sums of money from non-citizens against the promise of facilitating the obtention of Certificates of Mauritian Citizenship and Mauritius National Identity Cards, on the understanding that such documents have been issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. The public is hereby informed that applications for Citizenship of Mauritius have to be submitted in person to the Prime Minister’s Office. Applications for the issuance of Mauritius National Identity Cards have to be made in person at the National Identity Card Units.

Furthermore, Certificates of Citizenship and Mauritius National Identity Cards are issued in person to applicants without the involvement of any intermediary between the applicant and the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Identity Card Units. The public is hereby reminded that the Prime Minister’s Office does not accept applications for Citizenship of Mauritius and/or the issuance of the Mauritius National Identity Card from any person other than the applicant himself/herself.

Whereas for information on Mauritius National Identity Card, all information can be obtained on the website: mnis.govmu.org or by calling in person at the National Identity Card Unit, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower, Ebene.

The Prime Minister’s Office requests the collaboration of members of the public to report to the Prime Minister’s Office and/or to the Police any suspicious activities regarding applications for the obtention of the Citizenship of Mauritius and the issuance of the Mauritius National Identity Card.
